HATE TO LOVE
HATE TO LOVE started in front of a mirror. I caught myself staring at my own reflection and the song turned into a conversation between me and me — one of us really there, the other not quite. "You stare at me waiting for answers you'll never get" is exactly that: looking at yourself for an answer when you don't even know the question. It's me turning over decisions, the things I'd done, and the version of me that did them.
I like to frame it as a song about bipolarity — the way two opposite feelings can run at full volume at once, confusing and intense, pulling both ways. Underneath the back-and-forth it's also about acceptance: learning to recognize both sides as yours. You can read it small, as one person at war with themselves, or large, as the kind of polarity we keep living through. Either way it's the same pendulum.
It's the same setup as the rest, except this one had a producer with me, Celo Oliveira. The cover is the whole idea in one image: love in the heart, hate in the chains, holding each other in place. It's also the last thing we recorded on Canadian soil — cut in the middle of moving, in an AirBnB in Toronto, finished just a few days before we left for Brazil.
You stare at me waiting for answers you'll never get.
