CHAIN STRIKERS RELEASE DEBUT SINGLE “TRY TO CAGE ME”

Toronto-based post-grunge/nu-metal band Chain Strikers have just released their debut single, “Try To Cage Me” – a dark, aggressive first statement about breaking free from everything that tries to hold you down.

Blending the weight and groove of nu-metal with the grit and atmosphere of post-grunge, “Try To Cage Me” introduces Chain Strikers as a new voice out of Toronto, ON – Canada, channeling themes of freedom, inner conflict, and a quiet but intense spirituality.

A Song About Breaking Chains

At its core, “Try To Cage Me” is about freedom – confronting the “chains” that keep us trapped and refusing to let them define who we are.

The song wrestles with control, guilt, and expectations, but instead of giving in, it pushes toward liberation. There’s a spiritual undercurrent running through the track, hinting at questions of faith, purpose, and what it means to step outside the cages we build for ourselves or inherit from others.

It’s a song that can mean different things to different listeners:
for some it might be about toxic relationships, for others mental health, religion, or simply the pressure to conform. Either way, “Try To Cage Me” is a declaration: you can’t hold me forever.

Dark, Aggressive, and Atmospheric

Musically, “Try To Cage Me” leans into aggressive and slightly dark territory, while still leaving room for dynamics and tension.

Expect:

  • Heavy, driving riffs with a nu-metal edge
  • Gritty, emotional post-grunge textures
  • A sense of slow-burning tension that eventually erupts
  • Vocals that move between vulnerability and defiance

The track doesn’t just hit hard for the sake of it – it builds an atmosphere that matches the theme of trying to break out of something bigger than yourself.

Created in the Dead of Winter

“Try To Cage Me” wasn’t born in a flashy studio; it was crafted at home in Toronto, during the cold winter of 2024.

The song was:

  • Written and produced by: Marcelo Barreto
  • Mixed by: Abel Delgado – you can find more of his work on Instagram at @abeldelgado.av

What started as an idea slowly took shape over time. From the very first demo released on Spotify to the final version you hear today, the process took a full year. That extra time allowed the track to evolve, mature, and eventually become the definitive version of “Try To Cage Me”.

The Accidental Macabre Laugh

One of the most unique moments in “Try To Cage Me” happens right before the guitar solo.

While experimenting with plugins and a reverse delay effect on the solo, an unexpected sound emerged – a kind of macabre, haunting “laugh” that seemed to come out of nowhere. Instead of deleting it, it was captured and kept in the mix.

That eerie texture now sits just before the solo, creating a perfect, unsettling ambience that pulls you deeper into the track and reinforces the feeling of something powerful trying to break loose from its cage.

It’s a small detail, but it’s the kind of accident that couldn’t have been planned – the sound of the song almost creating its own ghost.

Cover Art Inspired by Prometheus

The single artwork for “Try To Cage Me” is inspired by the myth of Prometheus – the figure who defied the gods, stole fire, and paid the price for bringing light to humanity.

That imagery ties directly into the song’s themes:

  • Rebellion against control
  • Suffering as a consequence of freedom
  • The cost of refusing to stay in chains

Visually, the cover reflects the tension between captivity and defiance – perfectly mirroring the emotional landscape of the track.
